Where To Hire The Best Employees

Hiring the best employees for your organization is a difficult task. But finding and hiring the right candidate will save you time and money in the long run. Every company wants to hire a candidate that is qualified and reliable, but where do you find them? What makes them the best fit for your company and is your company the best fit for them?

The key to hiring the right employees is hiring those who are passionate about their career and your company. Rather than hiring a candidate out of desperation, hire a candidate that will contribute to your company and who fits easily with your culture. Hiring the right employees will improve morale and reduce high turnover rates.

The first place to start in recruiting quality candidates is with an effective job description. This provides details on what essentials and skills are necessary for the position. Written properly, the job description will lower the chances of receiving resumes from unqualified candidates. It is important to know exactly what you are looking for in a candidate. What experience do they have? What specific skills are necessary for the job? What software(s) are they competent in?, etc. Be specific about your ideal candidate and the day-to-day requirements of the position.

Hire candidates whose passions and interests align with your company’s mission and values. A candidate that is passionate about your industry, will want to help the company succeed and improve its profitability. Employees will be inspired and motivated to work harder if they feel their company share similar values and interests. Having a structured interview process that explores a candidate’s personality and drive, as well as their professional experience will help determine if they will be motivated to help your company meet its objectives.

Having a generous benefit package can help attract quality candidates. There are many types  of benefits, including, but not limited to: healthcare, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, and memberships to associations. According to Harvard Business Review’s article, “The Most Desirable Employee Benefits”, flexible hours, work-from-home options, and unlimited vacation time could give lower paying jobs an edge over a high-paying job with fewer benefits.

Where do you find the best employees?

There are several websites dedicated to posting job openings and many organizations where you can join and network with professionals. To list a few, Indeed, Glassdoor and LinkedIn. You can also share current openings on your company’s social media channels. Finally, your current employees are a great referral source and may recommend qualified individuals who will mesh well with their co-workers.

While recruiting top talent for your organization may be time-consuming, taking the time to hire the right candidates will lead to increased productivity and lower turnover rates which will save you time and money, and create a positive work environment.

Treat all employees and their concerns equally. Respond to all reports of sexual harassment diligently. While some investigations may take time to conclude, you can assure inquiring employees that their concerns are being addressed. Reinforce that you will do everything you can to maintain confidentiality throughout the process.

Enforce zero-tolerance. If a claim is substantiated, fire the offender regardless of their title, even if this is a first offense. Not enforcing a zero-tolerance policy will damage your culture and employee productivity, not to mention increasing your legal liability.
